Some time I wonder why we couldn’t create a respectable platform over the time span of almost 70 years since we got independence, for the artisans and traditional crafts as part of contemporary architecture in contemporary means and ways. Being in the field of architecture for more than three decades I know many skilled craftspeople who are into the great traditions and responsible for carrying it from generations to generations in every part of country. These traditions circulate in blood but at present state of situation the new generation is no longer ready to carry the traditions due to many reasons to count on. Primarily the economics and secondary the lack of desired respect from the society. Sometimes I feel that it is individual’s responsibility to keep update with the contemporary skills and market demands but at the same time I feel that there is always requirement for the associative thoughts and efforts to do so. To carve correct perspective to look at education is one of the very important aspects, where we grossly missed the track. The concept of white collar job again is outcome of wrong perspective towards education in this part of world. I am not sure why some wise entrepreneurs could not find big business opportunity in creating contemporary platform for them to integrate with the market of opportunities. Introduction and Intervention of new contemporary tools and technology could have certainly shown new avenues for innovations in the traditional crafts. Traditions should be able to flow like a river otherwise there are chances of contamination. New thoughts, ideas are always required to be integrated with the traditions coming long way, Integration of contemporary architecture and building skills with traditional art and craft can provided better economic platform to sustain forever.
